Head of Sailing

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a team of four to five sailing instructors, including responsibilities such as scheduling, managing clock-in and clock-out times, and conducting employee evaluations
  • Design, teach, and oversee both on-land and on-water sailing classes
  • Coordinate and execute preseason setup, postseason close, and staff training sessions
  • Establish and enforce daily procedures for staff, including rigging and derigging of boats
  • Inspire and support the professional development and growth of approximately four to five sailing instructors
  • Must have a safety-first mindset with strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills
  • Ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for junior sailors and instructors
  • Manage CANSail certifications and conduct evaluations for students
  • Instruct Wet Feet and CANSail 1-4 courses
  • Organize and host a sailing regatta for junior members and assist with the MLA sailing regatta at MLG&CC
  • Communicate effectively and positively with members and the Programs Manager
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in coaching sailing
  • Completion of the CANSail 3&4 Instructor Course, Advanced Instructor Course, or CANSail 5&6 Instructor certification
  • Possession of a Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC)
  • Instructor dues paid and registered with Sail Canada for current year
  • Current First Aid & CPR-C certification
  • Completion of Coach Boat Safety course
  • Safe Sport Training
  • A Police Record Check dated within 6 months of the start date
  • Proven sailing and teaching experience, with the capability to instruct both practical and theoretical aspects
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Period of Employment:
  • Seasonal - Mid June to end of August
  • Full time

Sailing Instructors

Responsibilities:
  • To provide sailing instruction, consistent with the Ontario Sailing Association and/or Canadian Yachting Association recommendations
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Club’s fleet of sail craft
  • Assist the Head of Sailing with the operation of the department
  • Must have a safety-first mindset with ability to provide a safe and fun environment for our Juniors
  • Create and teach lesson plans, teach Wet Feet and CANSail 1-4 and provide student evaluation
  • Communicate effectively and positively with members
  • Assist to run a sailing regatta for our Junior members
  • Assist with the MLA sailing regatta held at MLG&CC
  • Help with the organization and execution of weekly Family Nights, contributing to a fun and engaging atmosphere for members
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Completion of the CANSail 1&2 or 3&4 Instructor Course (or equivalent)
